Nettie Jo is an 18 inch folk art doll made entirely of cloth with several layers of gesso and acrylic medium applied to the face, arm and legs that is sanded between each layer for a smooth finish. Her face, arms and legs are then hand-painted and then acrylic sealer has been applied for protection.

Nettie Jo's design was inspired by the Izannah Walker dolls of the mid to late 19th Century. Her dress is designed to reflect the styles of that era. The skirt of the dress is completely lined; the lace collar on her dress and the trim around the legs of her pantaloons are hand-crocheted by Cathy.

She also is wearing a slip that has rows of pin-tucking along the bottom edge. All of her clothiing is removable except her shoes; they are painted on.
